Upto35 design competition_Makoto Tanijiri
| October 25th, 2009Upto35 is a competition organized by Greek developement company OLIAROS to design a student housing unit in Kerameikos and Metaxourgeio (KM), an area in the historic centre of Athens. Among many submissions from all over the world by architects up to 35 years old, 5 finalists have been chosen to go to the next round.
Makoto Tanijiri and his office suppose design office is one of the finalists. Here are their submission panels.

The idea is to have the staircase as the core and sectionary topography consists of different individual units at different level as the communal space. Together it forms a new kind urban living condition. It let the air flow through the communal space to the units. People get chance to talk to each other and interact.
The thing I like about this theme is the above-air garden with the kind urban livingroom space, we have seen so many themes that create the common/green space inbetween buildings but seldom see them between floors in a complex itself.
