Twenty + Change: Emerging Canadian Design Practices

The exhibition features twenty-one emerging firms from across Canada working in architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. These projects rethink urban infrastructure, propose new models for public space and housing, and examine the unique relationship between the single-family house and landscape.Design firms were selected by a curatorial team consisting of Anne Cormier, Christine Macy, Chris Pommer, Joost Bakker, and Ian Chodikoff.

ps: Since my firm is one of the exhibitors and the exhibition is organized by my professor, i guess i will have to go check it out.

A Project by Campos Leckie Studio on the past Exhibition for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad in Vancouver.

All components in the assembly are joined through interlocking friction connections without the use of fasteners or adhesives. The installation is created using 172 sheets of plywood that were cut using a 3-axis CNC (computer numerically controlled) router. The 288 vertical planes are paired and cut from 144 sheet of plywood. The remaining 28 sheets are used for interlocking horizontal pieces that shape this particular installation.

I attended a convention on climate change organized by the Institute of Civil Engineers of UK in Vancouver this Friday.This is the poster I made for it. Professor William Rees presented his famous “Eco-Footprint” theory and questioned all the engineers’ achievement from a negative and environmental perspective. Do we need engineers nowadays if we made a mistake to start industrial revolution at the first place?

Kumiko Inui from Tokyo lectured at Robson Square on Jan 28, 2010. She introduced herself and presented some of her office work to the public. Most of the projects are designed with her attitude towards life : happiness. Either small scale or large scale, the human emotion reaction is the key goal in her design.

6 years after the famous Habitat 67 completed, Moshe Safdie at the age of 35 went for a visit to China with Arthur Erickson.
